We collected data related to search engine performance for over 500 U.S. destination websites, and ranked each destination by total search engine traffic. We urge destinations to reference this resource in order to learn more about what SEO tactics work for some of the leading destinations in the U.S.
We found that 61% of all destinations rely on search engines (primarily Google) to provide for at least 70% of their total traffic. We found that on average a destination is receiving $69,000 worth of free traffic from search engines in May 2018.
In addition, we collected keyword and landing page data on the top 75 destinations resulting in a database of over 8,000 keywords, and 8,000 landing pages that power the top destinations.
Data Sources
Data from this study was pulled from Ahrefs.com and SimilarWeb.com The estimates for search engine traffic totals are generally conservative and should be used as trending data. The estimates reflect traffic totals for the month of May when tourism interest is high around the U.S. There are inherent flaws with all competitive intelligence tools, which is why this data should be used a resource for expanding your team’s knowledge about SEO.

This data set ranks 500 destination websites by total estimated traffic for the month of May, 2018. These estimates are typically conservative. We collected 3 data points for all destinations.
